For those in their twenties and early thirties, Kristin Cavallari is without a doubt a well-known name. Since her television debut in 2004 on the viciously popular reality show, Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, we have watched her blossom from spunky teen to full blown adult. No longer a teenager kicking back in the OC, Cavallari has graduated to encompass a plethora of talents. From actress to designer; Cavallari is non-stop. The latest and possibly most demanding job she has taken on? MOM! In this exclusive interview, Kristin Cavallari gives a peek inside her life as fashionista, app developer, television personality, and of course how she manages so many talents while maintaining her role as an awesome mom.
AKA Mom: Congrats on your second baby! How is it having a house full of boys? Will you and hubby Jay try for a girl on baby #3?
KC: Thank you! It’s a blast being surrounded by boys. They are a ton of fun, and make me laugh every single day. We will see about #3!
AKA Mom: With such a busy career – or careers, should I say? – how do you juggle work along with being a wife and mother of two young boys?
KC: It can definitely be hard at times, but I’m lucky to be able to make my own hours with the shoes and jewelry. I work on those while the boys are taking a nap or after they’ve gone to bed. Being away from them for work, even if it’s just a day, is the hardest part though. I always miss them, but I also know that when I’m working I’m a happier person, which ultimately makes me a better mom and wife.
AKA Mom: Since you’re fluent in fashion, with your shoe and jewelry lines, have you thought about designing a maternity clothing line?
KC: I’ve thought about it! I would love to do a nursing bra and tank top line one day.
AKA Mom: Have any designers or celebrities been an inspiration to you throughout your career in fashion?
KC: Tons of designers! I pull inspiration from Brian Atwood and Saint Laurent. Kate Moss will always inspire me… She is my ultimate style icon.
AKA Mom: The Official Kristin Cavallari App is now available, and people love it! What was your main inspiration for wanting to share your life through an app?
KC: It’s essentially my blog, but I thought it was a fun, different way to connect with my fans. I really love working on it, sharing health information with everyone and doing fashion pieces. It’s a great representation of who I am and what my interests are. I also thought it was a nice way to be a little more intimate with my fans by sharing mommy stories and posting personal pictures.
AKA Mom: Before co-hosting the fabulous show that is “The Fabulist” on E!, you were working mainly from home. What advice do you have for stay-at-home moms or moms-to-be exploring self-employment options?
KC: My only advice for stay at home moms would be to do something nice for yourself every once in awhile. It’s easy to go days without having a reason to get ready in the morning and smelling like spit up. Even if you have a close friend or relative come over for an hour so you can do a mini spa in your own bathroom without the monitor on. As moms we need a few moments to ourselves still and need to still feel good about ourselves.
AKA Mom: Speaking of “The Fabulist,” it seems this show was tailor-made for you! Can we expect to see you return to TV for another season?
KC: I hope so! I had a blast doing the first season so fingers crossed.
AKA Mom: In what ways are you hoping others will be inspired by you and your career?
KC: Great question. I just hope that people will be inspired by me to go after what they want. I don’t let a couple NOs stop me from doing something I want to do. I keep going until I make it happen.
AKA Mom: For all the moms out there, what are three must-haves in every diaper bag, apart from the obvious essentials (e.g., diapers, formula, pacifier)?
KC: Healthy snacks like LÄRABARs or an apple with to-go almond butter packets. I always keep lotion in mine for after I wash my hands from changing diapers, so they don’t get too dry. I also have these little bags for dirty diapers that smell good to mask the smell when you throw them out or if you can’t find somewhere to throw them right out right away.
Kristin Cavallari is certainly a force to be reckoned with! Motivated, down to earth, and health conscious; she has definitely got a great balance with her career and as a mom. Her go-get-‘em attitude and perseverance to succeed is contagious and she is definitely a public figure we can expect to see for a long, long time.
